Custom GPTs for Learning Support
Massachusetts Library System, 2024 - Present
The Challenge
Internal staff designing workshops and external vendors developing pathway courses both needed quick, context-specific guidance that reflected MLS standards. Without embedded institutional knowledge, each new project started from scratch, and quality varied across contributors. I needed a way to scale consistent, standards-aligned support across all content creators.
What I Built
Lizi: Staff Design Assistant
A custom GPT I built for internal staff that provides workshop design guidance grounded in MLS quality standards, adult learning principles, and IACET requirements. Lizi draws on embedded quality rubrics, style guides, and program documentation to give specific, relevant advice to staff across the organization.
Pathway Pal: Vendor Management Assistant
A GPT I created to support the management of external vendors developing pathway courses. Pathway Pal gives vendors on-demand access to MLS course scripts, learning outcomes, formatting standards, and assessment requirements, so they can produce aligned content without constant back-and-forth. It generates assessment questions, reviews module content against rubrics, and keeps vendor deliverables consistent with institutional standards.
I built both GPTs on curated institutional knowledge bases that include quality rubrics, pathway structures, style guides, and program documentation. This approach scales my ability to coordinate work across internal stakeholders and external vendors while maintaining consistent quality.
Results
- Created a scalable model for embedding institutional knowledge in AI tools used by both staff and vendors
- Reduced repetitive coordination overhead when managing external course developers
- Gave vendors and staff 24/7 access to standards-aligned guidance
- Demonstrated practical AI integration that supports rather than replaces human expertise in vendor and team management
